CUSTOM ORTHOTICS FAQ

Why do I need Orthotics?

You may have poor foot mechanics leading to foot, ankle, knee, hip or back pain. Custom made orthotics will help position your foot and ankle in a more anatomically correct way while you are doing your daily and work activities to minimize the excessive stresses on these and other structures.

Do Custom Orthotics fit into any shoe?

Custom orthotics can be made in a number of variations depending on the type of activity you are involved in and the type of shoes you normally wear.

Can Orthotics be transferred from one pair of shoes to another?

If the shoes are similar, you should be able to freely transfer your Orthotics between the different shoes. However if you require orthotics for runners as well as dress shoes, you will likely require a second pair customized to fit into a different style of shoes.

What is the process for obtaining Custom made Orthotics?

If you would like to purchase Orthotics privately, the process is very simple. At your Initial appointment we will conduct a thorough physical examination and perform the necessary measurements and casting procedures. From there we will forward the documentation to a designated Orthotic lab, and within a short period of time, your orthotics are ready to be picked up and fitted.

If you have a work insurance plan that has coverage for orthotics, you will need to follow the next steps in order to get reimbursed for the Orthotics: Obtain a prescription from a Medical Doctor (family doctor or walk in clinic) stating that you require “custom made orthotics” and the reason/diagnosis for which they are necessary. Once you have the prescription, we will perform the assessment and casting as described above. At that point you will be required to pay the full amount and we will send the information and casts to the laboratory. After the Orthotics are received from the lab and are given to you, we will send the complete claim package (Prescription, Assessment and Clinical Documentation, Payment receipt and Lab receipt/Paperwork) to the Insurance Company, which will then reimburse you directly according to your plan rules.
